Sharkwater documentary I pay

Sharkwater documentary

I pay extra for a 20Mbps symmetrical connection. For the uninitiated, that means 20Mbps downstream and upstream. I have used my Samsung BD-P2500 and my Playstation 3 to stream HD video from Netflix for quite a while now. Both work flawlessly over my connection. On to the test I started playing a movie in my Netflix queue which was in HD. The video looked great then 2 minutes into it the movie just stopped for about 30 seconds and resumed. Apparently the buffer is inadequate on this unit. I fired up the same movie on the Playstation 3, and it worked fine. I then went to the Samsung BD-P2500 which I moved to a different location and opened the same movie; also perfect. I gave this unit 1 star because when you purchase a product you expect all of the features, especially one this important, to work. This Blu-ray player simply does not work. Sony appears to be on a downward slide in the electronics industry and unfortunately it continues with the BDP-N4 It begs the question, Is Sony even trying anymore? I have a support sharkwater documentary open with Sony and will attempt to get this resolved through them. If they can t work it out next week then I will unfortunately have to return this unit to Amazon and try an LG BD3 If Sony is able to provide a solution, I will happily update this review and change the rating. Update: Sony has released another new firmware version which claimed to help with Internet streaming. At first it did not but over the past several days my Netflix streaming has been flawless. I will continue to test over the next several days and if everything goes smoothly I will probably keep this unit and increase the rating. Update 2: Netflix has work perfectly since the previous update. I have decided to keep this item. I have upgraded it to 4 stars leaving off one star for the initial problems. Very pleased with the machine, especially with the network connection and ability to upgrade the firmware and add new services. Worked so well, I bought a new 1 tuner and large screen Sony TV to go with it and love the HDMI interconnection control function. I probably just got a lemon, and Amazon says they will give me a refund because my unit was defective, so two points: 1 I am impressed with Amazon customer service so far and will be even happier once the refund process is completed; and 2 because my unit was defective, and because Sony made no bones about the fact that it was defective, the reader should take this review with a grain of salt because, for all I know, a non-defective unit would function perfectly. However, having said this, my opinion is that the video performance of the Blue Ray player was beautiful, but the unit acted like a temperamental computer always crashing. Therefore, I sent it back Amazon will pay for the shipping. For Netflix viewing, I frequently got error messages that said something like please wait, loading sharkwater documentary then the machine would freeze and the all controls were useless until the unit was unplugged and plugged back in. This also happened in normal Blue Ray viewing mode. Eventually I got fed up, called Sony, and found out that the unit was defective and would not work properly unless repaired at a Sony authorized facility. Upon hearing this, Amazon promptly apologized and offered me a full refund and agreed to pay for shipping. Because Amazon did not give me a hard time about a refund, I will definitely continue shopping at Amazon as long as the rest of the refund process goes smoothly. I am a bit surprised and disappointed that a defective Sony product slipped through their usually good quality control measures, but at least I am not stuck with a lemon. I am not sure if it is just this unit that was defective, or if the design suffers from trying to cram too many features into one device and the resulting complexity of the unit makes unreliability more likely. I think the replacement I will buy will be a straight-forward and simple Sony Blue Ray player, and a straight forward and simple dedicated video streaming device such as Roku. After this experience, I am convinced that two simple devices might be better than one complex and possibly unreliable device but like I said earlier, maybe I just got unlucky and got one of the few lemons that slipped through a usually good quality control department at Sony. We recently purchased a SOny KDL-52Z5100 and selected this BluRay player to go with it. Reasons: compatible linking with Sony HDTV and with Sony audio amplifier w/Bose speakers. Very pleased with the results! Pros: Connects to HDTV via HDMI; can alo connect to audio via HDMI or optical cable. Bravia compatibility let s one use HDTV remote to select and run all Sony-linked products.
